Why We Love the Koala Balmain Bed Base

The Balmain Bed Base is Koala’s budget bed base offering, boasting a sleek and versatile compact design with a subtle aesthetic appeal. By adding the Balmain Bedside Table, you can enjoy a space-saving solution without sacrificing comfort or functionality. The Balmain Bed is strikingly similar to the Kirribilli (yet retails from $300 less in the Queen size), and apart from a subtle design difference, it’s hard to tell them apart.

However, it appears the Kirribilli is made with higher quality materials, while the Balmain also has the option of adding a clip-on side table. Meanwhile, the bed base has been created without middle support legs, ensuring that there’s plenty of space to store items underneath the bed. It’s also incredibly easy to assemble, with a simple, no tool process that’s easy to follow.

How Sturdy is the Koala Balmain Bed Base?

The Koala Balmain bed base offers a sturdy and strong sleeping surface that can accommodate most mattresses, with a weight capacity of up to 240kgs. Its headboard provides a cosy backrest for reading or sitting up, but can be detached and stored if you don’t want to use it.

The bed base is constructed with good quality materials, including Ash Veneer, End Grain Ash Veneer and Engineered Veneer on Poplar Plywood with Honeycomb internal. Meanwhile, its panel slats promote excellent airflow to ensure a comfortable sleep. With over 30cm of generous height, there is ample storage space underneath the bed. Overall, this bed base is designed to deliver a comfortable and practical sleeping experience.

What’s cool about the Kirribilli bed base is the option to add a clip-on bed-side table to one or both sides of the bed. You can add this to your order for an additional $92.65 (RRP $109.00) per table.

Koala Balmain Bed Base Assembly

Assembly was quick and easy and can easily be done by one person. Koala claims it can be built in under 4 minutes, but it took me around 10 (not including unboxing the pieces).

The steps to build it are displayed on a large piece of cardboard, and even for me as someone who’s not very handy, it was pretty simple to follow.

Delivery Times

For those living in metropolitan areas, Koala offers same-day delivery (with some exceptions), while regional and rural deliveries usually take a few days.

Koala offers three daily delivery windows, with real-time delivery tracking in metro areas.

They provide free delivery for orders that include a mattress or small items such as bedding, linen, cushions, and throws. However, if you’re purchasing furniture-only items, delivery fees will be charged based on your location. This can be anywhere from $75 to $250 depending on where you live.

Trial & Warranty Information

The Koala Balmain Bed Base comes with a 120 night trial. If you don’t love it, you can simply return the bed base and receive a full refund from Koala.

The bed base also comes with a 5 year warranty. This warranty covers damage as a result of defects in workmanship and materials of the bed base that has at all times been used for normal domestic use. The bed base warranty covers severe cracks, breaks and faults that impact the bed’s functionality or safety.
